The Tahoe Gal's nightly dinner cruise on Lake Tahoe adds a spirited taste testing Monday, Aug. 25, when Southern Wine and Spirits presents an array of single batch bourbons.
The first whiskey distilled in Kentucky is generally attributed to the Reverend Elijah Craig at Georgetown, in Bourbon County. The grain he employed was corn, as it was more plentiful than rye. His product became known as Bourbon County whiskey and the name Bourbon has remained as the designation of whiskeys distilled from a corn mash.
Single batch bourbons occur when the blender devotes his art to mixing carefully selected, full-bodied straight whiskies to produce a lighter, more harmoniously balanced whole and to duplicate, day in and day out, an identical, uniformed product. The whiskeys contribute aroma, flavor and body that give the final product lightness and smoothness without sacrificing character.
Several of Kentucky and Tennessee's most notable bourbons will be part of the tasting aboard ship including the 127 proof Bookers, Bakers, Basil Hayden, Knob Creek and Makers Mark.
The two and one -half hour cruise departs from Tahoe City at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $38 per person and includes voyage and entertainment. Dinner must be purchased with each nightly cruise.
The sixty-foot Tahoe Gal offers a full bar, extensive wine list and full lunch menu. Executive Chefs Ryan Basset and Manny Davila integrate seasonal flavors with a creative menu while preparing everything fresh from the galley.
White tablecloth service greets diners within a freshly remodeled elegant interior highlighted by cherry wood, fresh carpeting and compass rose tile ceiling. A newly installed state-of-the art sound system adds to the festivities. Tahoe Gal's saloon offers micro-brews and an expanded martini list featuring its signature martini made with mango vodka and X-rated Passion Liqueur.
Each Sunday night the Tahoe Gal's cool, but cozy dinner cruise heats up with live music.
From May through October the Tahoe Gal offers daily scenic brunch, lunch, happy hour, romantic dinner cruises, and private charters. The Tahoe Gal combines professional seamanship, two levels of roomy comfort, a private Commodore's Salon and open air viewing of spectacular Lake Tahoe.
The 38-ton ship provides a unique and memorable setting for private employee parties, corporate outings, birthday, wedding and anniversary charters, and many other occasions. Catering is available upon request. The Tahoe Gal is located at 850 North Lake Boulevard at Tahoe City's Lighthouse Center.
